Handyman Resume Tips

  • Spell out your handyman experience. Potential clients look for experience.
  • Identify what can you can do as a handyman: carpentry, roofing, electric work, computer work etc.
  • Describe your skills and knowledge. If you’ve never done it, but you can do it, show it. Handyman skills and knowledge are important.

Tip 1: Showcase Your Handyman Abilities.

Again, clients are primarily interested in what you can do for them. What handyman skills do you have that you can include in your handyman resume? Common areas of handyman work include:

  • Carpentry work
  • Roofing work
  • Electrical writing work
  • Plumbing and piping work
  • Appliance and consumer electronics work repair (computers, TV, DVD player, etc)

Be sure to list each of your areas of experience on your resume. You can also include the number of years’ experience in each handyman area.

Tip 2: Backup Your Skills with Experience and Facts.

Your handyman resume should list important places you’ve worked in the Work Experience section. This work experience should be listed in reverse chronological order, beginning with your most recent job. Include both formal employment and side or freelance work, listing the company or client name and dates worked. Highlight key achievements for each project on your resume.

Tip 3: Spell-check, Proofread and Eliminate Errors in your Handyman Resume.

Don’t allow an unprofessional handyman resume to keep you from landing jobs. Make certain that your handyman resume reads well and is free of embarrassing typos, misspellings or other errors. The formatting should be clean, neat and professional. Leave plenty of white space and be consistent in your use of fonts, sizes and headings.

Tip 4: Include a Good Handyman Resume Cover Letter.

Your cover letter is your first introduction to a prospective employer. Use this valuable space to introduce yourself and emphasize why you are right for the job. Keep the cover letter focused on the employer’s needs, not on your own. Make sure your cover letter and resume portray you in the best manner possible.
